About the Event
This workshop is designed to acquaint students with the life and times of
Johann Sebastian Bach.
• What was life like during the 1600 and 1700s?
• What was Bach’s education?
• Did he attend a school where music was taught?
• Did his music differ from composers before his time?
Excerpts of Bach’s works and important vocabulary will be introduced to
describe the form and style of his music.
DR. BERTRAM GREENSPAN is a noted violinist and conductor who is a professor emeritus at Rowan University (NJ). He received his early training in Chicago, at the Juilliard School of Music and earned his Masters and Doctor of Music degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
Among his honors and awards are the gold Medal and Diplome d’Honneur of the Foundation Eugene Ysaye of Brussels, Belgium, the Distinguished Service Award of the American String Teachers Association – NJ Chapter and the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award by Rowan University.
His performance career has included appointments as Concertmaster of the Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the orchestras of Lancaster, PA and Reading, PA. His solo and chamber music performances have received praise from critics in Philadelphia, NYC, The Hague and Vienna to name a few.
He served as Assistant Conductor of the Reading Symphony Orchestra and has been the Conductor of All-State and Regional Youth Orchestra in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maine, and Illinois. At Rowan University he conducted the Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra and Opera Company Productions.
