 n\n\nYekwon Sunwoo has been hailed for his “unfailingly consistent exce
 llence” (International Piano) and celebrated as "a pianist who command
 s a comprehensive technical arsenal that allows him to thunder without bre
 aking a sweat" (Chicago Tribune). A powerful and virtuosic performer\, he
  also\, in his own words\, "strives to reach for the truth and pure beaut
 y in music.”\n\nThe first Korean Gold medalist of the Van Cliburn Inter
 national Piano Competition\, Yekwon's 24/25 season includes appearances wi
 th Ann Arbor Symphony\, New York Classical Players\, Colorado Springs Phil
 harmonic\, Armenian Symphony as well as recitals at the University of Mich
 igan\, Bechstein Hall and Carnegie Hall.\n\nRecent highlights include conc
 ertos with the Macao\, Kalamazoo &amp\; Victoria Symphonies\, Slovak Philh
 armonic\, Orchestre de Chambre de Paris as well as a US tour with the Esme
  String Quartet.\n\nIn previous seasons\, he has performed as a soloist wi
 th the Munich Philharmonic and Valery Gergiev\, Royal Danish Orchestra wit
 h Thomas Søndergard\, Fort Worth and Tucson Symphonies\, Washington Chamb
 er Orchestra\, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, Houston Symphony\, National 
 Orchestra of Belgium\, Sendai Philharmonic and Royal Scottish National Orc
 hestra amongst others. Recital appearances include Carnegie Hall\, Wigmore
  Hall\, Elbphilharmonie\, Salle Cortot\, Hong Kong Arts Festival\, and a t
 our of Japan.\n\nAn avid chamber musician\, Yekwon's collaborators include
  Clara Jumi Kang\, Sebastian Bohren\, Benjamin Beilman\, Linus Roth\, Andr
 ei lonita\, Sebastian Bohren\, lsang Enders\, Tobias Feldmann\, Gary HoAma
 n\, Anne-Marie McDermott and the Jerusalem and Brentano Quartets. He has a
 lso toured Costa Rica\, Guatemala and Panama with the Kumho Asiana Cultura
 l Foundation and performed at Chamber Music of Lincoln Center's Inside Cha
 mber Music Lectures.\n\nIn addition to the Cliburn Gold Medal\, Yekwon won
  first prizes at the 2015 International German Piano Award\, the 2014 Vend
 ome Prize held at the Verbier Festival\, the 2013 Sendai International Mus
 ic Competition and the 2012 William Kapell International Piano Competition
 .\n\nBorn in Anyang\, South Korea\, Yekwon began learning the piano at the
  age of 8 and made his recital and orchestral debuts in Seoul at 15. His t
 eachers include Seymour Lipkin\, Robert McDonald\, Richard Goode and Bernd
  Goetzke.\n\nIn September 2023\, Yekwon released his second album for Decc
 a Universal Music Korea featuring works by Rachmaninov following his first
  album in 2020 of works by Mozart. In 2017\, Decca Gold released Cliburn G
 old 2017 two weeks after Yekwon was awarded the Gold Medal and includes hi
 s award-winning performances of Ravel's La Valse and Rachmaninov's Second

  musical storytelling and striking virtuosity as acclaimed pianist Yekwon
  Sunwoo brings a performance rich with emotional depth and technical bril
 liance. The prizewinning pianist opens the evening with Schumann’s vibra
 nt Davidsbündlertänze\, which embodies the composer’s contrasting art
 istic approaches. Chopin’s luminous Barcarolle follows\, evoking the gen
 tle sway of Venetian waters. The second half of the program unfolds with t
 he elegant and intricate counterpoint of Bach’s masterful Partita No. 2 
 and culminates with Rachmaninoff’s Variations on a Theme of Corelli—a 
 thrilling showcase of artistry and drama perfectly suited for Sunwoo’s m
