DESCRIPTION:"All About Dvořák"\n\nThe Grand Piano Series Lecturer in Resi
 dence Magdalena Baczewska returns for a pre-concert talk exploring Antoní
 n Dvořák’s journey as an immigrant artist of Slavic origin who helped 
 shape what we think of as the ‘American sound.’ We will examine how Dv
 ořák blended his European heritage with the influences of African-Americ
 an spirituals and Native American melodies\, creating a unique musical lan
 dscape that redefined American classical music.\n\n\n\nMagdalena Stern-Bac
 zewska [pronounced ba-CHEV-ska] is a concert pianist\, harpsichordist\, re
 cording artist\, producer\, speaker\, academic leader and educator. She is
  the Director of the Music Performance Program and Senior Lecturer in Musi
 c at Columbia University. She has appeared as a soloist with prestigious o
 rchestras worldwide\, including the San Francisco Symphony\, Philadelphia 
 Orchestra\, and China National Symphony. She has collaborated with Oscar a
 nd Grammy Award-winning artists like Joshua Bell\, Charles Fox\, and Tan D
 un\, performing at the Tanglewood Music Festival\, Guangzhou Opera House\,
  Beijing National Center for Performing Arts\, Davies Symphony Hall\, and 
 Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center.\n\nBaczewska’s repertoire spans many cen
 turies\, including works for the harpsichord - she has earned acclaim for 
 her double-bill performances of Bach’s Goldberg Variations\, on the harp
 sichord and the piano - and music by women and underrepresented composers.
  Her discography encompasses various genres\, from Baroque and Romantic so
 lo music to collaborations with techno and hip-hop artists. Baczewska has 
 produced the bestselling series of albums\, "Music for Dreams\," in collab
 oration with the Bluesleep medical team that researches and treats sleep d
 isorders.\n\nBaczewska has given talks and master classes around the world
 : Beijing Central Conservatory\, New York University\, International Keybo
 ard Institute\, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts\, Manhattan School o
 f Music. As a Yamaha Artist\, she is among the pioneers of long-distance t
 eaching using the cutting edge Yamaha Disklavier technology. At Columbia\,
  Baczewska embraces her dual role of an educator and academic leader: asid
 e from teaching\, she mentors the members of the Music Performance Program
  and members and the elite Columbia-Juilliard Exchange.\n\nAs an avid advo
 cate of equal access to musical enrichment\, Baczewska is committed to out
 reach\, bringing music to wider audiences. During the pandemic\, she produ
 ced “Bach@Home\,” a YouTube series of public-facing lecture performanc
 es. She also designed and taught “Enjoyment of Music\,” an online musi
 c appreciation sequence for the Grand Piano Series where she is now the Le
 cturer in Residence. Baczewska is a teaching artist on Tonebase\, a digita
 l platform democratizing access to high-level music education. She also re
 gularly appears as guest lecturer in various concert series. She serves as
  a Grandmentor for Musical Mentors Collaborative - a nonprofit that provid
 es free music instruction to students who would not otherwise have access
