“Golden Virtuosity”
In this pre-concert talk, the Grand Piano Series Lecturer-in-Residence Magdalena Baczewska explores the evolution of the concept of the piano virtuoso, from the rise of legendary performers in the 18th and 19th centuries to the impact of competitions on modern perceptions of virtuosity. Magdalena will reflect on the historical legacy of the legendary piano masters who transformed the art of performance and the piano repertoire. She will also address the role of competitions in shaping the careers of today’s pianists.

She serves as a Grandmentor for Musical Mentors Collaborative – a nonprofit that provides free music instruction to students who would not otherwise have access to private lessons, addressing structural inequities in music education.
